YOUR JOURNEY TO

INTERIOR DESIGN

ACCREDITATION

WHAT IS

INTERIOR DESIGN

ACCREDITATION?

The Industry Transformation Roadmap Development for Singapore’s interior design industry was commissioned by DesignSingapore in 2018.

The roadmap identified the need for industry regulation: to uphold Interior Design professionalism.

Spearheaded by the Society of Interior Designers, Singapore (SIDS), the Singapore Interior Design Accreditation Scheme (SIDAS) was developed to elevate the Singapore Interior Design profession.

By defining core skill sets and competencies to bridge the gap between education and practice, SIDAS aims to ensure high standards across Singapore.

Coupled with Continuing Professional Development (CPD), practitioners would have the opportunity to continuously upskill, network, and hone their Interior Design skills.

ID Class 1 – Interior Designers with Structural and Spatial Expertise

Practitioners in this category are distinguished by their advanced capabilities in both spatial planning and structural design. With a minimum of a university education, these professionals possess the depth of knowledge required to navigate and manage complex design challenges, ensuring that every space is not only visually stunning but also structurally sound.

ID Class 2 – Interior Designers

Class 2 interior designers are equipped with a robust foundation in design principles, gained through a diploma education at local polytechnics and institutions. Their expertise lies in creating interiors that balance functionality with aesthetic appeal, making them well-suited to tackle a diverse range of projects from residential to commercial spaces.

ID Class 3 – Decorators, Stylists, and FF&E Designers

Specializing in the fine details that complete a space, Class 3 professionals focus on decoration, styling, and the selection of furniture, fixtures, and equipment (FF&E). Trained through the Institute of Technical Education, these practitioners excel in bringing design visions to life through careful selection and arrangement, adding the finishing touches that make spaces uniquely personal and inviting.

This classification system underscores the association's commitment to upholding high standards within the interior design industry while providing clarity for clients seeking specific expertise. By recognizing the different levels of education and experience, the Singapore Interior Design Accreditation Scheme (SIDAS) ensures that all interior design professionals are acknowledged for their contributions to the field
